TEST WELL WATER 2009 SCHOOL TESTIMONY CALENDAR |
From Nursing to Healing By Monik Amelia I used to think that through nursing I could work for the Lord and do some kind of medical missionary work, which is why I chose nursing as my major in college. I thought I had the best training I could get from one of the best of God’s schools. I finished my education with satisfactory academic accomplishments. I had a good nursing position in one of the SDA hospitals and thought that I could accumulate money for mission trips. I thought I had it all. I thought that I had it all planned out. I told God, "Here I am ready to work for You!" But just like God saw that the thorough education from the University of Egypt was not enough for Moses' lifework, so my so-called higher education was not sufficient for me to do my appointed work. And since it is a folly to lean on human wisdom, my plan to finance my own mission trips did not follow through either. Money is never an issue for God. Thus, through valleys and hills, God’s providence appointed me 4 months of training in the wilderness of Tennessee at M.E.E.T. Ministry, and now I am working at the ministry. I work in many areas of the ministry, but mostly I work with the health center staff helping health guests who have decided to come to learn more about health according to the Bible and to know more about their Saviour. At first, working at the health center was something I did by default since I have a nursing background, but as I gained more and more experience, I have grown to love it. And I could see how the training I received in college was not enough to equip me to do this type of work. First of all, my nursing school was great, but I was trained to be a bedside nurse, not a medical missionary nurse. My training made me a good nurse, yet I was not taught how to win souls. Nursing is a good profession to reach people, especially when they are weak and vulnerable. However, hospital settings and the health care systems limit what a Christian nurse could and should do. In addition, conventional medicine itself has not contributed significantly to preserving health. Since I came to help in the health center, I have witnessed so many tremendous blessings. I have experienced the joy of the Lord. Health session after health session, I gain new family. Spending 10 or 18 days together with both morning and evening worships brings me and the health guests closer, an experience which I rarely had at my job. In the hospital, I could get to know my patients to certain degree and barely could talk with them about spiritual things because of the heavy workload. Working in the health center allows me to know the health guests in a more personal level and to discuss deep things about God. We talk, laugh, cry, and pray together. And even after they leave, we still keep in touch like one family. Health session after health session, I witness that by using simple remedies, like food found in the kitchen, pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, and trust in divine power, people can receive physical healing. I witnessed that through a cleanse and lifestyle changes, a person with arthritic pain could run again, a few cases with immune problems regained their health and strength back, several cases with high blood pressure did not need to take their medications anymore, many health guests who came with poor lab results had their lab rechecked after leaving here and received wonderful results, and many more miracles. Those miracles I barely witnessed while I was working in the hospital. Most of the time I saw pain, suffering, and dependence on medications, which only bring more problems, which require different medications to solve them. Even though they may be somewhat "cured", they had to go through so much to reach that state.
I praise God for His willingness to impart health to us as long as we walk in obedience to His light and truth. I praise God for simple remedies, which may require more time and effort, but do their work wisely and well. I praise God for medical missionary work, which is truly the right arm of the gospel, and I am glad that I am a part of it.
