“I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope." (Psalm 16:7-9).
We should teach ourselves to put our trust and faith in the hands of the Great Physician. We may do this by taking time to count the many blessings we have received and rejoice in these
blessings from God. It is essential that we learn to cultivate gratitude and cheerfulness, rather than brooding over our sorrows and apparent troubles. By continually thinking that their lot in life is worse than it really is, many people make themselves miserable and sacrifice their health and happiness.
Because some things in the environment are not agreeable, some people go about with a continual frown, expressing negative thoughts and discontent feelings. Those whose thoughts and feelings continually lead to periods of depression are doing a great injury to their health. Particularly is the process of digestion and assimilation hindered, thereby interfering with the vital work of supplying good nutrients to all of the body’s cells. Never will grief, anxiety or worry remedy a single ill, but they can do much harm to our systems.
Keep in mind that our Saviour bids us to look unto Him and put our full faith and trust in Him. Jesus’ words: “Come unto me... and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28), is a positive prescription for the healing and maintenance of physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Though men and women have brought disease and suffering upon themselves through wrong habits, Jesus still regards them with the tenderest of love. In Him we may all find help. He will give rich blessings and do wonderful things for all who will trust in His divine power.
Remember that “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine...” (Proverbs 17:22).
