Temperance

"Beloved, I wish above all things, that thou mayest prosper and be in health..." 3 John 2
    1 Corinthians 9
    24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
    25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
    26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
    27 But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

    Every Seventh-day Adventist to Sign.--From the light of God has given me, every member among us should sign the pledge and be connected with the temperance association.--Review and Herald, Oct. 21, 1884. (Te198)

    Sign and Encourage Others to Sign.--Here is a work opened before the young, the middle-aged, and the aged. When the temperance pledge is presented to you, sign it. More than this, resolve to put all your powers against the evil of intemperance, and encourage others who are trying to do a work of reform in the world.--Review and Herald, Jan. 14, 1909. {Te 198.1}

    Called to the Holy War Against Appetite and Lust.--Are our young men prepared to lift their voices in the cause of temperance and show its bearing upon Christianity? Will they engage in the holy war against appetite and lust? Our artificial civilization encourages evils which are destroying sound principles. And the Lord is at the door. Where are the men who will go forth to the work, fully trusting in God, ready to do and to dare? God calls, "Son, go work today in My vineyard."--Manuscript 134, 1898. {Te 236.1}

    The Lord has given clear light regarding the nature of the food that is to compose our diet: he has instructed us concerning the effect of unhealthful food upon the disposition and character. Shall we respond to the counsels and cautions given? Who among our brethren will Sign a Pledge to dispense with Flesh Meats, tea, coffee and all injurious foods and become health reformers in the truest sense of the term? If we coudl be benefited by indulging the desires for flesh meats, I would not make this apeal to you; but I know that we cannot. They are injurious to the physical well being and we should learn to do without them." Pamphlets 128: pg 1,2

    Need of Men Like Daniel.--There is need now of men like Daniel,--men who have the self-denial and the courage to be radical temperance reformers. Let every Christian see that his example and his influence are on the side of reform. Let ministers of the gospel be faithful in instructing and warning the people. And let all remember that our happiness in two worlds depends upon the right improvement of one.--Signs of the Times, Dec. 6, 1910. {Te 237.1}
